Talbot Library Resources


Books
     The library holds over 50,000 books mostly in English but with a fair proportion in the
     major European languages as well as Latin.

Pamphlets
     Among the many  pamphlets in  the library is an important  collection on various
     religious controversies.  There is an extensive set of Catholic Truth Society
     pamphlets.

Periodicals
     The library  has runs of many Catholic periodicals including titles such as Clergy Review,
     Concilium, Dublin  Review, The Month, Priests and People, The Tablet,  and Venerabile.
     The collection includes important 19th century periodicals such as The Lamp and
     The Orthodox Journal.

Printed Music
    The Talbot Library has a significant collection of printed church music which includes
    plainchant, hymnals, masses and  motets, and other  miscellaneous music.  The extensive
    library  of the Church Music Association is held at the Talbot  Library  on permanent loan
    from the Society of Saint Gregory.

Photographs
    The Library is actively collecting photographs and illustrations of Catholic interest,
    especially those relating to the clergy, people and parishes of the Diocese.

Ephemera
     There is an interesting collection of ephemera, including prayer cards,
     ordination cards, memorial cards and  holy pictures.

Parish Histories
    Parish  histories are an important source of information on the life of the Church and the
    Talbot  Library has a large collection, chiefly of the parishes of the north-west of  England.
    The Library  would welcome donations of new parish histories as they are published.

      an important collection from the Shrewsbury Diocese, is a rich

      resource for the student of religious controversy and early doctrinal and devotional works.  Various editions of the works of Challoner, Gother and Lingard, among others, are available for study.

 

    A large collection of books printed before 1800 brought into the Talbot Library  from some of the Catholic missions such as Dodding Green and Fernyhalgh, and
